Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 1, 2026 • Version 2.0
Overview
Pin Pal is a Chrome browser extension that replaces your new tab page with a personal website shortcut dashboard. This policy explains exactly what data the extension accesses, how it is stored, and what we do not do with it.
Data We Access
Pin Pal accesses the following data solely to provide its core functionality:
- Website shortcuts you create — title, URL, and category name
- The title and URL of the tab you are currently viewing, only when you click the Pin Pal toolbar icon to save a shortcut
- Your background preference — a hex color or a base64 image string you upload
How Your Data is Stored
All data is stored exclusively on your local device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This means:
- Your shortcuts never leave your device
- No data is sent to any external server or third party
- No cloud sync, no remote database, no backend exists
- Uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all stored data
What We Do Not Do
Pin Pal does not:
- Collect personal information such as name, email, or phone number
- Track your browsing history or monitor your tab activity
- Share, sell, or transmit any data to third parties
- Use analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting tools
- Require an account, login, or subscription of any kind
- Display advertisements
Chrome Permissions Explained
Pin Pal requests only three Chrome permissions, each with a specific and limited purpose:
- storage — saves your shortcuts, categories, and background preference locally on your device
- activeTab — reads the current tab's title and URL only when you click the toolbar icon to save a shortcut. Not used at any other time.
- tabs — opens a saved shortcut in your current tab when you click it on the dashboard
Your Control Over Data
You have complete control over all data stored by Pin Pal. You can delete individual shortcuts or categories directly from the dashboard at any time. You can delete all stored data permanently by removing Pin Pal from Chrome via chrome://extensions.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the new version will be published at pinpal.site/privacy with a revised effective date. Continued use of the extension after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
